Geospatial Decision Support Systems
The following is a list of geospatial decision support system (DSS) initiatives where I served as Team Leader/Project Manager and/or Technical Expert (for more details see ICEM and About).
All developed applications were based on well-known and robust open source software components (see home page).
Project: ADB Investing in Climate Change Adaptation through Agroecological Landscape Restoration: Nature-Based Solution for Climate Resilience (Technical Assistance 6539)
Duration: Jan 2021 – May 2024
DSS purpose: To strengthen integrated management of the Manupali watershed in the Mindanao River Basin, supporting national and local governments, nongovernment organizations, and farmers’ organisations in river basin planning and management.

Project: Joint project in the Sesan, Sekong And Seprok (3S) Subbasin of the Mekong River
Duration: May 2023 – Jul 2024
DSS purpose: 3S Atlas and Geospatial Database of the Sesan, Sekong And Seprok (3S) Basin to inform transboundary, national and sub-national basin planning, management and investment in building water resource and climate change resilience.

Project: UNCDF/LoCAL Feasibility study for the establishment of the local information system for adaptation (LISA) in Benin
Duration: Jul 2024 – Oct 2024
DSS purpose: Led the preliminary design for LISA, in the context of LISA platforms developed in Africa (Ghana and Gambia) and Cambodia (Battambang municipality), and based on stakeholder and data assessments.

Project: GIZ Design and customisation of the 9C9T Basin Atlas, Cambodia and Thailand
Duration: 2022 – 2023
DSS purpose: To improve cooperation between the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Member States and strengthen governance in the water resources sector to balance competing uses of water in the Lower Mekong Basin (LMB).

Project: BMU/IKI Vietnam Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Adaptation in Agriculture through Private Sector Transformation (VN-ADAPT)
Duration: Jul 2023 – present
DSS purpose: To strengthen Vietnam’s resilience to increasing climate risks by promoting and scaling NbS/EbA in the agriculture sector. The focus is on rice and coffee production in the Mekong Delta and Central Highlands of Vietnam respectively. The concept paper for designing DSS for both regions was completed and climate data (CMIP6) downscaled for the Mekong Delta.

Project: UN-CTCN Climate risk assessment for subnational adaptation and establishment of a local climate information system for climate change adaptation (LISA) in Cambodia
Duration: Dec 2021 – Jun 2023
DSS purpose: To support adaptation decision-making processes and provide services for climate information delivery at the sub-national (local) level. The LISA was developed for Battambang municipality, Cambodia.

Project: World Bank Cambodia Mekong Delta Digital Atlas (CAM-MeDiA)
Duration: Dec 2019 – Jun 2020
DSS purpose: To build research capacity and planning capabilities of key provincial authorities to support climate resilient and adaptive development in Cambodia’s Mekong Delta. The DSS focused on supporting the mandates of the Ministry of Environment (MoE), Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MoWRAM), and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

Project: World Bank Strengthening resilience of the road and drainage network in Nepal’s secondary cities
Duration: Nov 2021 – Jun 2023
DSS purpose: To support Nepali secondary cities to address the issue of poor planning, design, and quality of road infrastructure in Nepal’s urban areas due to insufficient quality and high vulnerability of urban transport infrastructure to climate-related disasters.

Project: ADB TTA-6568 NEP: Priority River Basins Flood Risk Management Project (PRB-FRMP) – TACF TA Consulting Firm for Flood Risk Management and Asset Management Support (52195-001)
Duration: Sep 2018 – Jul 2022
DSS purpose: To support the Nepal government in implementing the PRB-FRMP by strengthening flood risk management planning of the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation (DWRI) and developing a flood infrastructure asset management system.

Project: World Bank TA-9191 REG: Building Climate Change Resilience in Asia’s Critical Infrastructure
Duration: Aug 2017 – Aug 2020
DSS purpose: Visualising existing critical infrastructure and climate change projections to support planning, investment, and development of resilient infrastructure in the energy, transport, and water sectors across South Asia and Southeast Asia. The web-based platform allows users to interact with critical infrastructure and climate change data to better understand how climate change affects critical infrastructure assets and complexes
